A Few More Paper Mache Bowls

A few more bowls! These are the bowls that I painted last week at the Lions Club for our ongoing Thursday meetup for the Fair Share Empty Bowls fundraiser. The bowls are supposed to be a symbolic reminder of people who do not have enough to eat.

This red one is my favorite.

My brush was not the greatest, but these are supposed to be black eyed peas at the bottom of the bowl.

These are my 'poke sallet' bowls. The kids stained them with poke berry juice a few weeks ago.

Hope you like them and feel free to join us if you would like to make some too.

There is no such thing as a bad mom.....

"There is no such thing as a bad mom." This is something that my friend and a mother of five boys told me after my baby was born a few months ago. It's something that I find myself contemplating on on a bad day or when I read someone ridiculing or judging various parenting choices. It is starting to become chiche to say so, but there is really no one right way to be a mom. I envy the free time of those who are able to spend time arguing otherwise. Here is a collection that I put together for many different types of moms: home birthing, hospital birthing, breast and bottle feeding, moms who want to teach their baby Spanish and mom's who have experienced loss or trauma. This treasury even features babies with and with out pacifiers! I really love the baby sign language shirt and the toy baby letters. Baby signing and early reading preparation is something that I didn't do with my first baby, but I'm trying with my new baby. My herbal Zi Cao "purple herb" Diaper rash salve is also included. Hope you enjoy it......

My Favorite Soaps for Sensitive Skin

Often times people at Fairs or Craft shows ask me what soap I suggest for people with sensitive or dry skin. I always suggest my Castile soap, which is made with 100% extra virgin olive oil in the oil phase, or my Oat Milk Soap. Both of these soaps are unscented and especially gentle.

I have been using my oat milk soap with my baby since she was born. And it has worked just marvelously, and her bar is not even half way used. Of course I am very careful not to get the soap near her eyes, though I do wash her hair with it also. She is just 4 months now here in this picture.

You can find both of these soaps in my AquarianBath shop on Etsy.

Paper Mache Bowl Progress

We are really getting the paper mache bowls piled up now at the Lions Club where we are preparing for Fair Share's Empty Bowl fundraiser. I was so happy when I cleaned Moira's room and found my old mythology coloring book that she had hijacked and over colored. What a perfect use for it! Cyclops and Medusa paper mache bowls are shown above. Below is my "Grow Your Own" bowl that I made with left over flyers from our last event. It looks really cool on the outside. I kind of wish I would have put the grow your own pages on the inside. I decided what I will do with it is paint the interior with "Fair Share Feeds My Family."

It has been great to have some time to just sit and make things. Here is Bernadette taking a turn with Tessa. Bernadette is my 5 star, #1, A+++ Nanny super extra. Bernadette helped me while I was showing at the Peabody last month and will help me next month when I start teaching again at the Herb Farm in Saint Augustine. That reminds me! I have room to spare in my Herbs for Cold and Flu Season Class on October 16th at Maggies Herb Farm. This is easy to remember, because it is the same day as the Fair Share Empty Bowls Fundraiser. I'll talk to Joel about the time. Hopefully we can start the dinner around 6 pm so I can make it to both! More details to follow!

Daddy has been helping out with Tessa too and has started providing entertainment at the club during paper mache. Here he is queuing up some MC Hawking or Symphony of Science. See everyone can participate at Fair Share! (Daddy just doesn't do paper mache after that bad incident with his fraternity's prize-winning 40-foot flaming paper mache Dragon).

Come out and join us again this Thursday for more Paper Mache Bowl making if you can. I'm going to break out the paint.

Sea Salt Soaps Make a Great Gift For Teens

The other day my friend and her son came over for a minute to say hi. Her teen aged son popped his head in to see if Tessa was around. Without much though I said "You look great!" I didn't quite know what it was, but my friend said about her son "It's the soap." Well my memory is not so perfect since I had Tessa, but it did come back to me that I had given her one of these salt soaps to give to him. And wow it was his skin that had cleared up, which was what I had noticed when he came in. She posted this on my facebook profile page:

"An amazing product!! Very gentle however incredibly effective. For several years my son had acne that was incredibly painful, within 3 wks of every other day use his skin is clear and the pore size is far reduced. Never be without it again :)."

You can always find my sea salt soaps at my facial soaps section on etsy. All my salt soaps are nearly 50% sea salt and are specially heat processed. The end product is a unique exceptionally hard, but gentle soap.
