Blue Springs Manatee Photos

We took a half day off from work at Aquarian Bath to visit the manatees at Blue Springs last week.  Hope you like the photos that Scott and I took. Scott took the under water photos with his Gopro.

Favorite spot for an annual photo.

Scott got these images of the nursing manatee with his "Gopro on a stick" contraption.

I helped him get these shots when I saw other manatees about to swim by by giving him direction where to turn the pole as he was laying down on one of the docks, "6 o'clock, 5 o'clock, 4 o'clock, 3 o'clock."

We probably saw a dozen altogether.  You can watch them during the winter on livestream:

Scalp Treatment for Babies and Toddlers

Babies and toddlers can often have build up on their scalp, but for different reasons. Whether build up on the scalp is from cradle crap from seborrhoeic eczema in babies, or toddlers non-compliance with thorough hair washing, a simple very simple treatment can be used. You just need two things, a small amount of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and a narrow fine toothed comb. A baby comb or a barbers fine tooth comb work well. Simply massage the scalp with Extra Virgin Olive oil and allow it to absorb for at least 30 minutes to overnight. Then gently brush out the hair. The cradle crap will come out easily through the tines of the comb. I used to do this with my 8 year old when she was a baby with cradle crap and it worked well every time. It was necessary to repeat a few times while she was little. My two year old did not have cradle crap as a baby, but she really is resistant to having her hair washed often. (She doesn't even like plain water over her head unless it is ocean water). So this treatment was necessary recently. I followed it up with a wash with my Patchouli Hemp Oil Shampoo Bar. She was a bit cranky to have her hair washed, but her scalp is back to normal and her hair looks great.

There is no such thing as a bad mom.....

"There is no such thing as a bad mom." This is something that my friend and a mother of five boys told me after my baby was born a few months ago. It's something that I find myself contemplating on on a bad day or when I read someone ridiculing or judging various parenting choices. It is starting to become chiche to say so, but there is really no one right way to be a mom. I envy the free time of those who are able to spend time arguing otherwise. Here is a collection that I put together for many different types of moms: home birthing, hospital birthing, breast and bottle feeding, moms who want to teach their baby Spanish and mom's who have experienced loss or trauma. This treasury even features babies with and with out pacifiers! I really love the baby sign language shirt and the toy baby letters. Baby signing and early reading preparation is something that I didn't do with my first baby, but I'm trying with my new baby. My herbal Zi Cao "purple herb" Diaper rash salve is also included. Hope you enjoy it......

Baby Cakes!

I guess I am a typical mom with baby on the brain.  Now instead of hallucinating that some one is calling "mom, mom" sometimes I think I am hearing crying.  I have already gotten up once from this quicky blog post to check out the crying that I am hearing (only in my mind)...I think...or maybe not.  Anyway, I love this cry baby necklace from CobwebCorner.  It makes me chuckle.  Cry babies are cute.

I swear I can still have an adult conversation about something other than baby, but please indulge me as I share my newly created baby cakes treasury with selections from my Unique Women in Business group members.  Visit the treasury on Etsy to click through the individual items.

Three of the items in this treasury are from Kim of BeautifulBridget in her beautiful photo props shop you can find more items such as these.  All her items are her own original designs or patterns.  She is a true handmade artisan.  This is my current favorite from her shop.  Be sure also to check out Kim's daughter's shop: Miss Indie.  Quite a talented family:

Here is the newest picture of my little baby cake in a basket.  She's actually a very happy baby, not too much crying.

I also included in this treasury my Zi Cao Herbal Salve which is very great for baby diaper rash. Luckily I haven't had to use it for Tessa yet. It comes in very handy though if a baby ever has a rash or hurting bottom from diarrhea.  I have blogged about this specialty herbal salve previously and you can read all about it's many uses including to relieve burns, vaginitis pain, and insect bite itch here here.

New Baby on Board

I'm pleased to announce that our new baby Tessa arrived last week. She was born at home and weighed approximately 8.5 pounds. She is doing great, and I am recovering well. I have some wonderful helpers here and my various shops will be staying open, however shipping times will change from next day to twice a week for approximately the next 3 weeks. Thanks for your patience and stay tuned. Next up on the blog I will be hosting a great giveaway followed by an introduction to my other new 'baby,' my new sister shop on etsy for my handmade jewelry.
